Twinzer Fish
It’s no secret that I love twin fins and grab one 80-90% of the time when I go surf, but I wanted to design a board for those that love twin fins or someone who comes from a tri-fin background and looking for the speed and rich cosmic texture of a twin with some additional power and drive.
About the fins:
A cousin to our favorite High Aspect Twin fin, the new Furrow Twinzer fin was designed to provide additional control for powerful bottom turns, long drawn-out cutbacks, and tighter top to bottom turns.
About the model:
The Twinzer Fish complements its sister, the Long Fish Twin in its sleek outline and pulled-in nose and tail. Bottom contours blend single to spiral vee for directional water flow through the fins. Added a touch more lift in the tail to suit the extra drive and power. A Clean, classic, and highly functional board that we recommend for all sizes of surf.
Inspiration and Twinzer history:
These two new models and fins are inspired by Will Jobson’s original Twinzer concept and are a continuation to our current twin fin family. The twinzer design concept, created by Wil Jobson, works by using two small canard fins positioned in front of two larger twin fins or lead fins. The canard fin helps direct water flow onto the foiled side of the lead fins. This creates an area of high pressure on the low pressure side of the lead fin. Reducing cavitation, slide, and resonant frequency, it allows for more positive and powerful drive through turns. In short, the twinzer creates a more efficient fin system, meaning it needs less surface area compared to most twin fins. I was first introduced to the Twinzer concept and its clandestine knowledge about 15 years ago through my husband Manny Caro (Mandala surfboards) who has been building his own twinzer designs for close to 20 years. Wil had shaped Manny a few twinzers, which featured Wil’s signature handmade Twinzer fins. Alongside his masterful shapes, the fins were what caught my eye, as they reminded me of the wings of a sea bird about to dive down to catch its prey. At the time, I was new in my own shaping journey and found Wil’s work inspiring.
Flash forward to today, after spending the last couple years designing and field testing my own twinzer designs, I am excited to share these new models with you.Untitled Like all of my boards, these new models are designed for the style of surfing that employ a love of weightless speed, flow, and the joyous harmony between loose control. I strive to constantly cultivate a knowledgeable understanding of these heightened feelings to produce a progression of intangible subtlety within my models rather than change for the sake of change.
